The Northwestern Rotary Student of the Month for March is Emily Day. Emily is a very bright, hard-working young lady. While a student at Northwestern, she has engaged in many different activities including Junior Achievement, National Honor Society, peer tutoring, and volunteering for Rocket Day as well as the fourth grade lock-in. On top of her many school activities, Emily has been an employee of Kroger for two years where she was promoted from a bagger to a cashier and floral shop clerk. After high school, Emily plans to attend Wright State University to study Integrated Language Arts and Adolescent to Young Adult Education. Emily plans to graduate with a Master’s degree and pursue a career as a high school English teacher. She wants to become a teacher so she can inspire students the way her teachers have inspired her.

Sarah Smith is the Northwestern Rotary Citizen of the Month for March. Sarah is a great leader with a passion for helping others. During her years at Northwestern, she has been involved in many activities including National Honor Society, symphonic band, advanced art classes, and Junior Achievement. Outside of school, Sarah is very involved in her community. She has volunteered with Interfaith Hospitality Network and as a helper at the Northwestern Craft Show. She is also an active member of her church’s youth ministry, The Movement. On top of all of her activities, Sarah balances two part-time jobs. She is an employee of Fent’s Dairy Corner and she also works at a non-profit organization called Clubhouse, where she spends time helping at-risk students from the Dayton-Troy area. After graduation, Sarah plans to attend Mid-Atlantic Christian University and major in Psychology and Counseling with a minor in Non-profit Administration. Sarah has a passion to end human trafficking and plans on starting her own faith-based organization to help victims with recovery.
