The New Year’s Eve Ball Drop will be continuing for it’s 8th year in downtown New Carlisle.

The event is held each year beginning at 9:00 p.m. on December 31 at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Street.

“This year, we have added free horse-drawn carriage rides during the Ball Drop, provided by Karen’s Carriage out of Cincinnati,” said Heritage of Flight Committee Chairman Mike Lowrey. “We will have food, music and dancing in the street as we have in the past.”

Lowrey said that free noisemakers will be distributed just before the countdown to the new year.

The New Year’s Eve Ball Drop was begun by the New Carlisle Bicentennial Committee to welcome in our bicentennial year of 2010. The following year, it was handed over to the Heritage of Flight Committee, and has grown every year since.

In addition to the carriage rides, the evening’s events include

  • Ice carvings by Rock on Ice, including an “autograph session.” Kids can have their names carved into small bricks to take home and put in the freezer
  • Cold Hard Cash – Those who answer trivia questions correctly will win cash frozen in a block of ice. Prizes range from $1 to $10
  • Appearances by Elsa and Anna from the movie “Frozen”

Many of the shops downtown will be open and offering snacks. The Committee will also be holding a 50/50 raffle and selling food, coffee, hot chocolate and glow-in-the-dark items.

Proceeds from the Ball Drop will benefit the Heritage of Flight Committee.
