Can you believe it? The summer months are fading fast and the annual New Carlisle 5K CROP Hunger Walk, i.e., our Community Response to Overcome Poverty, is just two and a half weeks away, set for Sunday, September 20.

With God’s help and broad community support, last year we raised slightly over $10,000. This year’s goal is to again surpass the $10,000 threshold (25% will go to the BCU Food Pantry in New Carlisle). We’re excited! This is do-able and an all-out effort is underway to enhance participation. Donations enable Church World Service (CWS) to build food security for vulnerable communities, provide emergency relief to victims of natural disasters at home and abroad, and fund self-help projects in third world countries.

Instrumental to the success of the CROP Hunger Walk campaign is the Corporate Sponsor Program, now in its 16th year. Since its initiation in the year 2000, corporate sponsors have been a major pillar of each year’s walk. Larry Fry, Chairman of the Corporate Sponsor Program says “Every year, September has been the biggest month for the corporate sponsor push as we approach CROP Hunger Walk Sunday. Participation of members of the Western Clark County Business Coalition is making a positive impact, especially with recognition that this is the only CROP Hunger Walk in Western Clark County.”

A donation of any size makes a business or a civic, service, social, or veterans organization a Corporate CROP Hunger Walk Sponsor. The business or other organization that contributes the highest amount will be recognized as the 2015 WILMER FUNDERBURG CORPORATE CROP SPONSOR CHAMPION.

Prospective corporate sponsors are reminded that participation is simple. Just indicate “Corporate Sponsor” on the memo line of your check, payable to CWS/CROP. You may give it to a volunteer walker you desire to sponsor, call Larry Fry (849-6127) for pick-up, or mail it to: Larry Fry, CROP Corp Sponsor Program, 1615 Wogaman Drive, New Carlisle, OH 45344. All contributions will be deductible on your 2015 Federal Income Tax Return. Those received by October 31 will count toward this year’s goal. Any received later will begin the 2016 collection. Thanks so much for joining with us in this all-volunteer effort to make a positive difference in the lives of so many who are in need.
