Crystal Lakes residents complained to the Bethel Township Trustees about junk and parked cars in the area. Crystal Lakes Property Owners Association spokesman Pete Brown said “It is a serious, serious problem.”

Johnson’s Super Valu announced that they would be closing in three weeks. Low sales and stiff competition were cited as reasons. Owl Drugs, who shared the same building, took out an ad to announce that they would be staying in town. They said that they learned about Johnson’s closing the same time as the general public. They had lost their lease and were unsure where the store would relocate.

Edward Broerman and Julie Marie Smith announced their engagement.

Laura Tragesser was named the New Carlisle Rotary Club Student of the Month from Tecumseh High School.

The Lady Arrows softball team were 8-0, after beating Northeastern 10-0. Pitchers Stephanie Dyer and Patty Glenn were on fire.

50 Years Ago in New Carlisle

From the April 18, 1967 edition of the New Carlisle Sun

Susan Kessler and Julie Foutz were candidates for the 1967 Home & Sports Show Queen. There were 15 other candidates from throughout the county. The show was held at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

The first house fire of the year occurred at the home of Robert DuFour, 204 Galewood Dr. Kids playing with matches is the suspected cause. Little damage was reported.

Coffee was on sale for 49¢ per pound at Johnson’s Super Valu

New Carlisle Baptist Church advertised a revival April 16-23, featuring Rev. Fred Hill of Grove City.

USAF Airman Apprentice Alvin Spurling, son of Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Spurling, was in training to be a weather observer. He was stationed at Lakehurst NJ.
