Bethel Township’s fiscal officer, Melanie Cochran, announced that she will be handing in her resignation later this year. Mrs. Cochran has filled the position for 14 years in Bethel township. The Bethel trustees requested suggestions/recommendations for an individual to fill the fiscal officer position. The two additional requirements on top of the necessary accounting qualifications is that the persona applying for the position be a resident of Bethel Township and is a registered voter. The annual salary for the fiscal officer’s position is $23,000 per year, including full benefits and retirement.

A special, preliminary word of gratitude was expressed by each of the trustees at Mrs. Cochran’s comprehensive work for the township over the last 14 years.

CattleZone, a local Springfield restaurant/bar, attended the trustees’ meeting to request a Sunday Liquor license. The restaurant currently possesses a level 5 liquor license, but requested the trustees’ permission for the upgraded license. The trustees agreed to investigate the legal precedent for their granting the CattleZone’s request, stating that it should take no longer than two weeks for them to give a motion on the liquor license. 

Bethel resident, Carolyn Marth, attended the Bethel trustees’ meeting to extend a special word of thanks to the Bethel paramedics who assisted her in a car accident on December 4. Although Ms. Marth said she did not know the names of the two paramedics who assisted her in getting to a trauma ward. When asked for a statement, Ms. Marth stated, “I just wanted to thank the Bethel paramedics for coming so promptly and taking such good care of me, and I thank God for how quickly they had a room prepared. They were very foresighted and took care of everything, and I was in a bed within two minutes; very fast.”

For residents concerned with developments in the prevention of residential flooding in the Tillie Lane/Bethel area, a County Commissioner’s work session will be held on January 17 at 10:00 AM. The Board of Commissioners meet every Wednesday will be held at the Springfield Municipal Courts Building, and will be able to answer legal questions surrounding the township’s flooding issues.

The trustees gave a motion to allow the Donnelsville Baseball Association to host sign ups at the Donnelsville cabin. The sign ups will be at no cost on February 24, March 3, and March 7.

The trustees moved to gives similar permission to the Medlake Baseball Association to use the Styer Lions Den for their sign ups. Medlake’s sign up s will be on February 17, February 24, February 28, and March 3.

The trustees also moved to pay runout claims to OPEC Healthcare Cooperative. The runout claims go towards leaving the current health sponsor, Benovation.

A special meeting/work session will take place on January 18 to handle the ensuing health insurance coverage for the township and research for the Cattle Zone liquor license. The following public trustee meeting will be on January 25 at 7:00 PM.
