The people of New Carlisle have spoken, and they want their Cupcake Cuties back!

A number of people regularly stop into our newspaper’s central office in downtown New Carlisle to chat, but last week, we were overwhelmed by the number of people who dropped by to talk about Cupcake Cuties. Many people stopped in to ask if we knew if the bakery would reopen, others came to tell us about their love for the tasty food and the owner herself.

Bonnie Gantt founded Cupcake Cuties, but was forced to shut it down not long after opening last year to be with her husband Jerry, who tragically lost his battle with cancer early this year.

The New Carlisle News spoke with Gantt when she first officially opened the shop, saying that Jerry made it possible for her to open the bakery, a goal she said she had for many years.

Serving up sweets, savories, and smiles to everyone who comes through the door, Gantt and company had no trouble establishing a connection with their customers—I saw this firsthand through the look of utter anguish on her customers’ faces when they learned that their favorite lunch spot was temporarily closed. Also apparent was the genuine sympathy displayed by other loyal Cupcake Cuties customers who came in to tell us about Jerry’s death, wishing that there was something they could have done to alleviate Gantt’s pain in losing her beloved husband.

The bakery held an official grand-reopening on Monday, February 1, offering new items and hours. Now open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Gantt now offers a $6 meal deal, with different choices of sandwiches and soup each day. For one dollar more, you can add a cupcake or a side, or add both to the meal for $1.50, ensuring that you’ll walk out with a full belly.

For more information, call Cupcake Cuties at 926-3572 or search Cupcakecuties Café and Gift Shop on Facebook.
