Residents of the Village of Donnelsville may be getting a municipal water supply, with water supplied by Clark County.

Mayor Bob Cornwell informed the village council at their Monday night meeting that Enon was not interested in providing water to the village.

“Clark County Utilities said that they could run lines from Park Layne to Donnelsville,” said Cornwell.

He stressed that the costs of installation would be covered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (90%) and by the Ohio EPA (10%).

“After the problems we had installing the sewer system, we will be looking at this frontward, backward and sideways,” said Cornwell. “We will not be burned again.”

An ordinance outlining the operation of the water system is being drawn up by the Village’s solicitor and should be done within a few days. Cornwell said that the ordinance will outline hook-up fees and usage fees. Hook-up will be voluntary, but he said he talked with 20 families, and 19 of them said that they would hook up.

Once the ordinance is ready, a special council meeting will be scheduled for the first reading of the ordinance.

In other action, Doug Frank informed council that the first two phases of street repair have been completed. The streets that are done are N. Hampton St. and the streets in Heistand Estates.

Council approved a bid from Vandalia Blacktop to repair Mill and Harrison Streets at a cost of $16,060. This will complete the street repairs in the village for this year.

Council also set Beggars Night in the village for Saturday, October 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Donnelsville Village Council meets the first Monday of each month in the village offices. The public is invited to attend.
