Beagle, casually dressed in jeans and a blue plaid shirt, reminded the audience that Clark County, as the second largest county in the district with 140,000 people is “up for grabs”.

National, state and local politics met at the home of New Carlisle City Councilman Ethan Reynolds when State Senator Bill Beagle conversed with residents from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5. Reynolds invited Beagle to a “Coffee and Conversation” session at his home because “he is a good conservative that definitely represents what I believe in.” Beagle is one of 15 Republican candidates running for Ohio’s 8th Congressional District seat vacated by former Ohio Rep. John Boehner. Beagle, state senator for the 5th district and a small business owner is campaigning hard to win the special election primary to be held on March 15.

Beagle, casually dressed in jeans and a blue plaid shirt, reminded the audience that Clark County, as the second largest county in the district with 140,000 people is “up for grabs”. While Beagle admits that “they remember my name, for better or for worse”, as a former Tipp City councilman, he has a “firm commitment to Clark County” and “knows firsthand how important it is to be active and engaged in the county.”

When asked by Huber Heights councilwoman Janell Smith what sets him aside from other candidates, Beagle responded, “What I offer is that I still actively manage a business, I still have my foot in the private sector. I offer private sector expertise and common sense." He maintains that with his proven legislative and business skills, “I can work across the aisle to get things done.”

Jobs and economic growth are two issues Beagle strongly supports. He maintains that “the IRS is killing growth, holding back jobs,” while “taxing and penalizing small businesses.”” He wants to see “a simpler tax code and a shift to a consumption-based tax.” New Carlisle councilman William Lindsey made a comment about the Affordable Care Act, saying “If you can’t afford insurance, why would you have to pay the fee?” Beagle is opposed to the ACA because “It has to do with people looking over your shoulder.” Beagle also addressed concerns about health care for veterans, workman’s compensation, and the need for government deregulation.

Beagle has served as a state congressman for the 5th district since 2011, as chairman for the Senate Workforce and Economic Development Committee. He has voted on every pro-life measure, one of which banned abortion after 20-weeks gestation. He also voted to make concealed carry permits easier to obtain.

Beagle asserts that as a state senator, he has “had success in bringing Columbus closer to cities and townships” by working with local forms of government to provide resources and solve problems. Beagle says “government that governs best is close to the people. In the end, we are in a relationship business. Everybody needs to be kind of working together.”

Nancy Brown, Bethel Township trustee, Janelle Smith, Huber Heights city councilwoman, William Lindsey, New Carlisle city councilman and a handful of Clark County constituents attended the meeting.
