State Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) today encouraged constituents in the 79th district to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at participating locations. The nationwide initiative provides an opportunity for citizens to safely and conveniently dispose of unused or expired medications.

The Ohio Department of Health reported in 2016 that the rate of unintentional death from prescription drugs in Ohio has been on a decline for the past few years. It is crucial that Ohioans are aware of the resources available to continue lowering that rate. As it is reported that many who abuse prescription drugs obtain those drugs from the home of a friend or relative, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide safe and responsible ways to dispose of old or unused medication.

In Representative Koehler’s district, the take-back location is:

Springfield Police Department
130 N. Fountain Ave, Springfield, OH 45502

Representative Koehler remarked upon the significance of Saturday’s efforts:

During the last three and a half years, I have heard more and more stories of young people and adults overdosing or beginning a life of addiction because of access to unused medication. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a first step in the fight against unintended, even lethal, consequences from unused drugs being left in our homes. Help protect our families and our environment by disposing of these drugs in a safe manner.”

Law enforcement officers and pharmacy employees may be present at take-back locations to assist. Participating locations can be found at takebackday.dea.gov.
