The Northwestern Board of Education voted on Thursday to purchase a 10-passenger van.

The van will be purchased from Walt Sweeney Ford for slightly over $27,000, using bid pricing from Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Cooperative.

“There are times we need to transport a small group of students,” said Superintendent Jesse Steiner. “If we need to take the golf team to a match, it wouldn’t make sense to use a 66-passenger bus.”

Steiner said the district expects delivery of the van “within a couple of months.”

Board members were entertained by the Northwestern Show Choir at their March 16th meeting. The choir and Jazz Band will be traveling to Nashville over spring break.

While in Nashville, they will take in the Grand Ole Opry, and will be given an opportunity to record at RCA Studio B.

Studio B was a major recording facility in the 1960’s. Its major clients included the Everly Brothers, Waylon Jennings, The Browns, Don Gibson, Dolly Parton and Roy Orbison. Elvis Presley recorded over 200 songs at Studio B.

To recognize their trip, the choir performed a medley of country hits, including 7 Bridges Road, On the Road Again, Elvira and Rocky Top.

The next meeting of the Northwestern Board of Education will be on Thursday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Elementary School Library.
