Student response to the Tecumseh Local School District’s 2015 Veterans Day program inspired local resident, Paula Fugate, to starts the “John H. Priest Christmas Cards for Veterans” program. The voluntary program gives students an opportunity to choose or make Christmas cards for distribution at Dayton’s VA Hospital and Wright-Patterson Medical Center.

Fugate says since some students may not have the opportunity to make homemade cards, the program is taking donations of Christmas cards so all students who choose to participate can have a card to send.

“The kids and veterans really responded well to each other at the Veterans Day program. Christmas can be a lonely time for veterans, so Christmas cards can really brighten up that time of year for them.”

The Christmas Card for Vets program was also started in memory of former Medway resident and Air Force veteran, John H. Priest, who passed away in April.

For more information about the program contact Paula Fugate at (937) 750-2568.

Donations of Christmas cards will be taken until Oct. 1 and can be sent to the Tecumseh Local Schools Board of Education office at 9760 W. National Rd., New Carlisle, Ohio 45344. Arrangements to have cards picked up can also be made by contacting Fugate.
