Members of the Tecumseh Marching Arrows marching band helped make the local community a bit cleaner on Saturday with one of their summertime car wash fundraisers held at AutoZone in New Carlisle. Nearly 30 students participated in Saturday’s event.

There are 70 students participating in Tecumseh’s 2016 – 2017 marching band and color guard.

This is the third year car wash fundraisers have been hosted by the Tecumseh Band Booster and sponsored by the New Carlisle AutoZone.

Senior trumpet player and member of the Marching Arrow’s student leadership team, Macalah Schuyler, has been participating in the car washes since they began three years ago. Schuyler says her favorite thing about participating in the car washes is spending time with her friends, raising money for the band, and helping the community get involved while the band members are raising money.

Junior percussions player, Lexi Perez echoes Schuyler saying she really enjoys how people come out and take time to support the band at the car wash, especially since being a member of a band is so expensive. “The people who come here help make it possible for us to have uniforms, get equipment, go on trips, and things like that. It’s really great that our community does that for us!”

The car washes are paid for by donation, so Perez also says there is a pragmatic aspect of the car washes for band members personally, “We we really get to learn the value of a dollar too!”

Tecumseh Band Boosters President, Janice Becker, says the group is especially grateful for the support provided by New Carlisle’s AutoZone Auto Parts store. “They provide everything. The water, the soap, the towels, the space...We appreciate their help so much, they make the whole thing possible for the kids.

Tecumseh Board of Education member, Corrinne Scott, even got in on the action by helping the kids wash vehicles and directing traffic.

AutoZone Store Manager, Marvin Haubach is the father of two Tecumseh High School students. Haubach says sponsoring the car wash offers the Marching Arrows a fun and unique way to make money, “It’s great to see the kids having fun while making money for what they need. If we can help with that, then why not?” Haubach says in addition to providing materials, the store pays for it delivery trucks to go through each car wash as well.

The Marching Arrows will hold one more car wash this season. They invite community members to come and get their cars washed from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on July 30 at AutoZone on Main Street in New Carlisle, Ohio.
