Matt Brown

Brown honored as scholar athlete

Tecumseh High School senior Matthew Brown was recognized by the Tobey Auto Group as a Scholar Athlete of the Week. During the 2016 regular season, one student athlete from each of the “Thursday Night Lights” participating schools is selected as the recipient of a $250 scholarship.

Brown has a 4.111 GPA. He has completed community service requirements for Government and National Honor Society. Brown received the Allstate Good Hands Award in both bowling and cross-country.

Cross-Country Coach Dan Vaughn stated that Brown has become a leader on the team. “Others look to him because he is reliable, hardworking, and persistent. Matt has demonstrated integrity by showing that he can lead others when there is no coach present,” said Vaughn. “He is the model that we hope our other athletes strive to become both on and off the athletic field.”

In addition to the $250 scholarship, Brown is eligible for a $5000 scholarship at the end of the season.

One component of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) program at Park Layne Elementary encourages kindergartners and first graders to earn “hot tickets.” Students earn tickets for following rules and making good choices in all areas of the building. Walking correctly in the hallway, giving extra effort on schoolwork, and being a good friend to a friend in need are some examples of appropriate behaviors students are encouraged to model. Students write their names on tickets and winners are drawn weekly. The winners then choose a small prize and have their photo taken for the district’s Facebook page.
