At the January 24, 2017 meeting of the Bethel Township Miami Trustees, the trustees did not take any official actions. However, Township Administrator Andy Ehrhart reported that the Fire Department made 27 runs between January 7, 2017 and January 20, 2017. The majority of runs were for Emergency Medical Services although the department did respond to several traffic accidents due to inclement weather. Overall, Ehrhart said it was a relatively quiet period. He added, “With the increased training on fire prevention and the increased use in smoke detectors, the department is not seeing the huge building fires that they have in the past.

For Planning and Zoning, Planning and Zoning Director Marty Caskey reported that two zoning applications were submitted since and last meeting and two issued. The first certificate was issued for a new residence at 2962 Ginghamsburg-West Charleston Road. The second was for an accessory building at 7450 Scarff Road.

He also announced that the January Bethel Board of Zoning Appeals meeting has been cancelled because Caskey was unable to get a quorum. One member has moved out of the township and another has health issues. Caskey is looking for two new members to serve on the board. The board is tentatively scheduled to meet on February 23, 2017 to hear the three cases that are pending. The three cases include two requests for pole barn height variances at 5930 Rudy Road and 6185 Dayton-Brandt Road, and a request for a pole barn square footage variance at 7930 Rudy Road.

The Bethel Zoning Commission will meet on January 26, 2017 to hear a request to rezone 2.518 acres from R-1 AAA Residential to B-2 General Business to allow for the establishment of a veterinary clinic at 968 Bellefontaine Road. In February, the Commission will hear a request to rezone seven parcels located at 6476 US 40 from Agricultural to R-1 AAA Residential.

In addition, the commission will hear a request to rezone two lots a 9140 SR 202 & US 40 from B-1 General Business and B-3 Neighborhood Business to I-1 Light Industrial to join the lots and erect a gas station at that location.

The Sheriff’s Deputy reported that no criminal activity has been reported in the township since the last meeting. However, he said the department has conducted a large number of traffic stops. The stops are effective in slowing down traffic and reminding drivers that the Sheriff’s Department is monitoring their behavior.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for February 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The Trustees will hold a public hearing for public comment on the proposed rezoning of 2.518 acres at 968 Bellefontaine Road.
