At the September 27, 2016 meeting of the Bethel Township Miami Trustees, the trustees approved a resolution authorizing Cooper’s Blacktop, LLC to repave the parking lot of the township building at 8735 S Second Street in Brandt. The repaving will cost $39,500.

In addition, the trustees approved a resolution allowing the township administration to sell a 1972 John Deere Road Side Mower as surplus property on eBay for a minimum bid of $2000. The township replaced the mower and no longer has a need for the 1972 Mower.

For the Fire Department, Township Administrator Andy Ehrhart reported that the Fire Department responded to 19 calls between September 10, 2016 and September 23, 2016. The department responded to 14 emergency medical services calls, and one vehicle accident with injuries. One run was made for an unauthorized burning and one was made for an authorized burning. The remaining two calls were cancelled on route.

For Planning and Zoning, Planning and Zoning Administrator Marty Caskey reported that he received and issued one zoning certificate for a pole barn at 4400 S Rudy Road. In addition, he has three variance applications. The first request is for a sign at 6170 Scarff Road. The second is to build on a residence on an undersized lot at 5015 SR 201. The third is to build a residence under the minimum size of 1500 square feet at 6365 SR 201. The Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on October 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. to hear these cases.

In addition, he has a conditional use application to build a second residence at 6365 SR 201. No date has been set to hear this case.

Caskey also responded to a junk car complaint for zoning enforcement. The complaint has been cleared.

In announcements, Ehrhart announced that the township office would be closed on October 10, 2016 in observance of Columbus Day.

He also announced that the Fire Department will hold an open house from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 15, 2016. Care Flight will be attending and the fire department will conduct a burning house demonstration. A bounce house and food will be onsite for all participants to enjoy.

In addition, on October 26, 2016, the Fire Department will house a Community Spaghetti Dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Department will provide information and answer questions on the need for the Fire/EMS Levy that is on the November ballot. All community residents are encouraged to attend.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for October 11, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the township meeting room.
