Residents in the State of Ohio will be going to the polls in March this year due to the Presidential primary. The switch from May gives the voters in Ohio a say in who will appear on the General Election ballot come November in the Presidential race for the White House.

The Clark County primary ballot has some candidate decisions to be made this year related to the retirement of long time County Commissioner John Detrick who will leave office next year.

There are three Democrats hoping to receive the nod from voters to face unchallenged Republican candidate Melanie Wilt. Looking for the majority of the votes to appear on the November ballot as the Democratic choice are Darrell Jackson, former Springfield Mayor Dale Henry and former County Commissioner Roger Tackett who was unseated by current commissioner Rick Lohnes.

Democrat Ron Vincent who has served as Common Pleas Clerk of Court for many years will be seeing opposition from the Republican Party in November. The primary ballot has two Republicans hoping to get voter support to challenge Vincent later this year. Bob Suver the former head of Job and Family Services is seeking the Republican spot along with Melissa Tuttle.

In November, Sheriff Gene Kelly will face challenger Deborah Burchess a former member of the Sheriff’s Department in Clark County.

Long time County Recorder Nancy Pence is being challenged by Democrat Janet Oberlin and Democrat David Herier who filled the seat vacated on the county commission in 2015 by David Hartley is being challenged by former New Carlisle Mayor Lowell McGlothin in November.

We will be asking the primary candidates for Democratic Clark County Commission and Republican Clerk of Courts to respond to questions which will be featured in our paper during the month of February.
