Henslee Park Dedication edited

The above photo is of the dedication ceremony for Henslee Park. The park was dedicated to former police chief Gordon I. Henslee for his service as police chief. from the years 1932 to 1961. The dedication occurred during the 1963 Memorial parade. The parade made a brief stop at the park for the dedication, before continuing down Main Street. A special bronze inscription was placed at the based of the flagpole acknowledges Henslee’s community service. Hugh Brubaker donated the flagpole and John Milliken wrote the inscription to the base. Funds to erect the flagpole and to fit the park with picnic tables and seats were donated by local businesses.

At the microphone from left to right are former Mayor Charles Keller, Gordon Henslee, and the Congressman Clarence J. Brown. Other attendees at the ceremony included Chief of Police W.W. Bobo, Clark County Sheriff Elwood Thackery, and Rev. John Middlekauff. Medway’s VFW post 9684 were on hand to support the event
