City Manager Randy Bridge informed City Council at their meeting Monday evening that the sale of the Twin Creeks properties is almost complete.

The City received $189,000 for the properties. Out of those funds, the City is allowed to keep expenses in maintaining the property. The balance will be forwarded to the County Auditor’s office.

The Auditor will then apply those funds toward back taxes, interest and penalties on the properties. “If we get anything, I don’t expect it to be very much,” said Bridge.

Bridge would not estimate the administrative costs that the city has incurred, stating, “Past record keeping has not been the greatest. I can’t, in good faith, quote a figure. I will have to research this with a fine-toothed comb.” Bridge said he was going to make sure that there were no problems in the future.

He also would not estimate the amount of back taxes owed, but said that they were “substantial.”

We searched the Auditor’s website and found that 16 properties on Colony Trail had delinquent taxes totaling $191,724.59. There are about 10 other properties that we did not check.

Bridge said that the Auditor’s office will start with the earliest year in which taxes are still due and apply funds toward those taxes. They will then do the same process for each year after that.

Public Works Director Howard Kitko reported that the Willowick Park project has been completed. Reseeding will be done in the fall.

H&R Block will be moving into the former Wesbanco building. He did not know if they bought the building or will be renting.

The next regular meeting of the New Carlisle City Council will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Smith Park Shelter House. The public is invited to attend.
