Petitions for tax credits were presented to Clerk of City Council Gene Collier on July 26. He made the announcement at City Council’s meeting on Monday.
The petitions are to place on the ballot a tax credit for city residents who pay income taxes to other cities where they work. The taxes you pay to the other city would be applied as a credit toward your New Carlisle city income taxes.
Collier has forwarded copies of the petitions to Law Director Lynette Dinkler to verify that the language of the petitions is valid. They are now being reviewed.
He also sent the petitions to the Clark County Board of Elections for validation of the signatures. He said the board has 10 days to complete their process.
“I called the Board of Elections to see how many city residents cast a ballot in the last Gubernatorial election,” said Collier, “and the petitions need 141 valid signatures.”
Collier said that this is just the first step in getting the issue on the ballot.
City Manager Randy Bridge announced that Dayton Access Television has requested a donation of $1000 from the city. “DATV airs our city council meetings four times a month,” said Bridge. “We also put them on YouTube.” He said he wanted to bring it before council before doing anything.
Council members were not thrilled with the idea, most of them concerned with the number of people viewing the meetings on DATV. “If nobody’s watching it, why bother,” said Council member Bill McIntire.
“IF we get 1000 calls from people asking why the meetings aren’t on TV, then we could reexamine this,” said Councilman William Lindsey, expressing his opposition to the donation. “If they’re interested, they should be here [at council meetings],” he said.
Bridge also announced that the contract with Waste Management will be up for renewal soon. He said the city would probably continue with Waste Management as the city’s waste hauler. “I want to eliminate the bags,” said Bridge. “I would also like to get a rate for low volume residents and for senior citizens.”
The next meeting of the New Carlisle City Council will be on Monday, August 15 at Smith Park Shelter House. Next week’s meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. with an executive session as the first item on the agenda. The public portion of the meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
