Recent reports of a growing economy in Clark County are translating to new businesses and business expansion in the City of New Carlisle.

At the September 21 meeting of city council, city manager Randy Bridge reported that the city will be holding a Planning Board meeting in October to review proposals for expansion and change to existing businesses in the city.

R. D. Holder Oil has submitted plans recently to add on to the existing building at their location along St Rt 235.  Council will learn more about this possible expansion following the results of the board meeting.

Also making changes is Vancrest Health Care Centers.  The company purchased Dayview Care Center and is planning a $5 million expansion.  According to information provided by Bridge, the plan is to demolish some of the existing structures and construct new buildings.  This is a large investment in western Clark County and especially for the city. Demolition is scheduled to begin this week.

In other news regarding growth of the commercial entities in the city, Bridge reported that Jent Mechanical, a heating and cooling business opened its doors at 225 S. Main Street.  The business has an A+ Better Business Bureau rating and Bridge suggested that local residents consider this business for their needs.

An update on the transformation of the former CVS store by AutoZone was provided to council.  The target date for the opening of the auto parts retailer is around Thanksgiving this year.  Work is underway inside the building and Bridge estimates that it won’t be long before the company logo and familiar red strip appears on the exterior.

Speedway Corporation is busy redeveloping the land on the southwest corner of North Main Street and West Lake Avenue.  A new 3,936 square foot convenience store featuring a Speedy Café will be constructed now that the homes purchased for the expansion have been demolished.

The estimated time for the project that will feature 6-8 dispenser islands with a cover is about 3 months.  Bridge noted that the corporation tends to move quickly when making changes to a location to keep from having too long of a down time for the business.

The store will have 24 parking spaces, three driveways and cover 1.038 acres for the entire project.  Fencing, landscaping and covered dumpster area will also be part of the expansion.
