Pike Township Trustees held a trustee meeting last Tuesday at 7:30 at the Pike Township building.

News from the fire department included a new fire truck that the trustees voted to purchase. The department will be purchasing the new truck at a quoted price of $405,000. The new, custom-made fire truck will be a replacement for the two trucks, a model ’85 and ’91. The North Hampton Medic Squad is currently out of commission for repairs, although the town EMS is currently using a New Carlisle squad, which the trustees wished to express their gratitude for.

There were several decisions made regarding the levies carried over from the May trustee meetings, which were finalized on Tuesday. The Road District 1 Mill renewal levy was set for the 2017 ballot on November 7th. The levy will commence from 2018 until 2023 under the Ohio Revised Code’s section for general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and road/bridge repair. The Fire & EMS 2.5 Mill renewal levy was passed under the same 5-year schedule for the section on the Ohio Revised Code’s section for providing and maintain fire apparatuses/appliances and Ambulance/Emergency Medical Services. The motion for the Road and Bridge 2 Mill renewal levy was passed unanimously by the trustees. The 5-year levy will follow the same 2018-2023 plan that the other levies are set to follow. The trustees also approved a motion to accept the General Liability Insurance quote from McMann, Smoot and Riddle for an amount of $15,244.00.

Thanks went out to the community for the “Ice Cream Social” on May 27th, although the trustees discussed potentially moving the social to another date in May since it seems to habitually rub shoulders with Memorial Day celebrations as well as graduation parties. The Social has been compared to Christiansburg’s annual fish-fry.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 20 at 8:30 a.m., at the Pike Township building.
