The Bethel boys’ basketball team runs their record to 17-2 overall with three big wins last week.

They opened the week with a 70-62 win at Carroll as Caleb South dropped in 28 points to lead the Bees, while Ryan Rose added 23.

Bethel then defeated Troy Christian in a big Miami County rivalry game 56-47. Rose and South each scored 13 in the win for the Bees.

“Going into (last) week, everyone was saying how big the week was for us for seeding purposes,” said Bethel coach Brett Kopp. “We needed at least two wins to get votes for the number two seed. The kids have the mindset, they knew to get to district and father they needed to be in the best position. Every team that beat us last year, we beat this year.”

“Our kids are competitive and want to win, and are playing better together and it showed this week.”

A win by the Bees on Friday will give them the Cross County Conference title outright, and the huge game begins with a 6:30 JV tip. Fans are encouraged to get there early due to the expected crowd size.

“We have kids who want to perform in the big games, they are excited for it,” Kopp said. “It’s a rival, this is who you want to play to win the outright title. They are the standard on the court, and it’s our last home game and we want to cut the net down in front of our fans.”

Full coverage of the game will be in next week’s edition.
